Lip or Mouth Freckles

Freckles may be cute on your nose, but who wants to spot them on the lips? A few oddly shaped brownish blemishes on the lips, called MELANOTIC MACULES, are common and medically meaningless. Although no cause for alarm, these spots can stick around for years.

Freckles can also show up inside your mouth called ORAL MUCOSAL MELANOSIS, these skin color changes are often a very early sign of addison's disease, a rare hormonal disorder of the adrenal glands. They can also signal various other hormonal conditions or changes. As with any skin blemish, if the spots or freckles change color, shape, or texture, they can be warning signs of skin cancer.

A yellowish hue (jaundice) on the palate or under the tongue may be a sign of hepatitis.
