Not only can our noses smell, they can sometimes be smelly. If your nose gives off a foul odor, you might not notice it, but others certainly will.
An offensive odor emanating from your nose can signal OZENA, a chronic disease in which the nasal structure becomes atrophied. Ozena itself is often an early warning sign of Empty Nose Syndrome or a more serious form of this disease called Secondary Atrophic Rhinitis. (The terms are often used interchcangeably.) But whatever it is called, it can ruin a person's quality of life. Embarrassed by the odor, sufferers may avoid social contact, or find that others avoid them. As a result, they may become severely depressed.
