Itchy Ears

Having an itch where you cannot scratch, like in your ear, can drive you crazy. Not surprisingly, itchy ears are another sign of allergies or skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. Itchy ears can also be a sign that you are cleaning your ears too much, leaving them dry and unprotected from lurking bacteria and fungi. In fact, itchy ears may mean that you do not produce enough earwax in the first place.

An ear itch can also be an early sign of Swimmer's Ear (Otitis Externa), a condition in which the external ear canal is infected with bacteria or fungi. Later signs of swimmer's ear often include yellowish, sometimes foul-smelling, discharge and pain. While swimmer's ear may sound innocuous, if untreated, it can progress to an extremely painful and potentially life-threatening condition called Malignant Otitis Externa, a bone infection.
