If you feel or more specifically your tongue feels a bump or lump on the roof of your mouth, do not over react. These protrusions are most likely signs of PALATAL (torus palatinus), bone growths on the roof of your mouth. Believe it or not, these are benign protuberances, often caused by nothing more serious than eating hard foods that irritate the palate. In fact, you may first notice these bony structures when chewing on a doughnut. If these bumps get really big, as benign as they are, they can give you trouble with your speech or your dentures.
